1.         How long have you been in the industry?  27(!) years.

2.         What is your current position and employer? I am a Referral Consultant with Liberty Mutual.

3.         How long did it take you to obtain your CPCU?  Too long.  I took one course a year at the start, but when I came to Liberty and learned how much they help with expenses and of the incentives they offer to finish, I picked up the pace.

4.         What do you like most about your job? Working with newly hired underwriters and seeing their progress from the first training session through to their first real experiences in the field.

5.         Why or how did you start in the insurance industry?  I had a relative who did well selling life insurance, and I figured that everyone needed insurance so it shouldn't be hard to sell. So, I was hired as a Sales Rep with Sentry Insurance in the Chicago area where I quickly learned that while there is no ceiling to how much you can earn, there's no floor either.  After a few years of that struggle, I was fortunate to land a position as an underwriter with a specialty transportation insurer and found my place in the industry.

6.         Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of getting the designation?  Earning the designation is a tremendous accomplishment, and it's not easy, but it will open up so many opportunities in the industry that wouldn't otherwise be available.

7.         What book did you read last?  I recently finished "The War Outside My Window", which is the diaries of a teenager in Georgia during the Civil War. He suffers from tuberculosis and is often quite sick but his writing about every day life during the War is fascinating.

8.         What is your favorite restaurant?  Flying Pig in Midlothian. Not fancy but always good.

9.         What college/university did you attend? John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR.  Small, non-denominational Christian school where I majored in Broadcasting.

10.      Tell us something about yourself outside of your insurance career.  Back in the 1980's, I was a radio announcer, a "DJ".  The hair, the clothes, the music, yeah, I did that.  Sorry.
