  1. How long have you been in the industry?     7 years

  2. What is your current position and employer?     Inland Marine Underwriter with Kinsale Insurance

  3. How long did it take you to obtain your CPCU?    3 years

  4. What do you like most about your job?   Because I’m in inland marine, every day is a little different.  One day, I could be reviewing an app for a trucker and the next, a builder’s risk for a celebrity’s house in California.  It’s hard to get bored.

  5. Why or how did you start in the insurance industry?   I graduated college with a degree in teaching, and I found it wasn’t really for me.  After teaching for a year, a family friend who worked in the industry encouraged me to apply to her company’s associate program.  I did, got in, and the rest is history.

  6. Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of getting the designation?  Don’t be intimidated by it.  The challenge is in the volume of information you have to know rather than the complexity of it.  It’s a war of attrition that just about anyone can win if they put in the effort.

  7. What book did you read last?   Master & Apprentice, a Star Wars novel by one of my favorite authors

  8. What is your favorite restaurant?  Probably my favorite restaurant anywhere is this place called Alpine Bakery in Alpharetta, GA.  I used to go there a lot when I lived there… great Italian food and amazing cakes for dessert.  As far as places here in Richmond, I’m a pretty big fan of Continental Westhampton.

  9. What college/university did you attend?  The University of Virginia.  Go Hoos!

  10. Tell us something about yourself outside of your insurance career.  I love to travel, especially abroad.  I’ve been to Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, and Italy, and I’m going to Spain in October
