  1. How long have you been in the industry?   Since 1991, when I graduated from college and was hired in HR and in charge of the workers’ compensation program.

  2. What is your current position and employer?   I work for Anthem, Inc., and I am a Risk Manager.

  3. How long did it take you to obtain your CPCU?  It took me 2.5 years to get my designation.

  4. What do you like most about your job?   It’s challenging and always evolving. No two days are the same.

  5. Why or how did you start in the insurance industry?   I got into insurance by accident; I was an aspiring HR professional and found employee safety and compliance to be interesting, and just went in that direction.

  6. Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of getting the designation?  Go for it!  The designation is well worth it. Of the three designations that I have, I think it is the most comprehensive and applicable to any job in the insurance industry. It is very achievable - just chip away at it a class or two each year.

  7. What book did you read last?    This month I read the Goldfinch – great book – highly recommend it!

  8. What is your favorite restaurant?   Mama Zu

  9. What college/university did you attend?    Radford University (Go Rowdy Red)

  10. Tell us something about yourself outside of your insurance career.    I started learning to play the bagpipes about 5 years ago… took a hiatus while working on my designation and I’m looking forward to getting back into that. If you are ever by the War Memorial and see someone holding a set of pipes and looking like they are wrestling an octopus – that’s me. Please stop and say hi!
