Desiré A. Marshall
How long have you been in the industry? I have been in the industry for three and a half years.
What is your current position and employer? I currently am a senior account manager at Amica Mutual Insurance company.
How long did it take you to obtain your CPCU? It took me about 2 years to obtain my CPCU.
What do you like most about your job? What I like most about my current job is the people and how I am constantly learning something new about insurance.
Why or how did you start in the insurance industry? I was always in financial services, but never thought about insurance until I went through the future leaders program at Amica. This program has been able to help me flex my management skills as well as understand the insurance industry from the sales and client services side of the house. I somehow fell into insurance, but feel as though it was one of the best decisions because there is so many avenues within the industry that you can be a part of and not feel that you are doing just one thing.
Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of getting the designation? My advice for anyone thinking of getting their designation is that when studying for a course go through practice questions constantly because it will help you understand how questions are formulated for the actual exam itself.
What book did you read last? The last book I read was “The Handmaid’s Tale”, I am a big fan of the show so I thought I should actually read the book.
What is your favorite restaurant? I currently do not have a favorite restaurant here in Richmond, so I am looking for suggestions. My favorite restaurant of all time though is a place called Brix Tavern in Portland, Oregon.
What college/university did you attend? I attended Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.
Tell us something about yourself outside of your insurance career. I caught the traveling bug when I was 17 when I first went to Spain and have not wanted to stop traveling since. This is one of my passions outside of work; exploring different continents and the US.
